  1. From the time line I was surprised that pasta started in the 1790s. In the beginning of the time line I noticed that there weren’t really any new recipes. The first few recipes were bread and soup.

  2. I thought this website was very fascinating! I never knew dolma was invented in 350 B.C.! That was very long ago! I was so surprised to know that it was made a LONG time ago and not that many people know about it! I guess it's one of those delicious dishes that don't really get passed on from family to family over these years.

  3. Being my favorite fruit, I decided to search more about lemons. I was astonished to know that lemons were discovered as early as the first century. I would have never imagined that lemons could be a valuable and rare item; yet, in the past it was a desired fruit. In addition to being an ingredient used in cooking, lemons were used in medicines due to their acid content. Lemons spread to several parts of Asia and Europe with the help of Arab traders though it is believed that the irresistible fruit originated in North India. I also did research on a few other food items such as water and ice and found it quite interesting that they were discovered in such early times.

  4. I was very surprised at the time some of my favorite foods were created like:
    • Ice cream: I can’t believe it was invented so early
    • Pizza: I didn’t know that it would be so modern.
    • Orange juice: I thought it would be invented earlier.

  5. Some times, I ponder how the food I eat everyday was invented/ discovered, and this website has all the answers. I think it is an immensely serviceable website, for numerous reasons. One of which it enlightened readers with the history of their nourishments and foodstuffs. But there were some interestingly peculiar foods listed on the timeline such as Wheatena, Saccharin, maslin and switchel. Additionally, I realized that were more basic food in the early BCs, and as the line keeps going, more patented brand food such as Oreos, Heinz ketchup, Tofurky, SPAM, Krispy Kreme, and Py-O-My were invented. Also, there are many rich, traditional recipes from Australia, Europe, the Middle East and India that stand out amongst others. They come along with a short history of that food and an beneficial primary source attached with it like journal entrees, and for more modern food, interviews as well. Overall, this is a very fascinating source of food-related information and is very reliable as well.

    1. Also, to my surprise, I found out that High fructose corn syrup was only invented in 1967. That probably means that there weren't that much harmful, sugary food before that because now a days most junk food's main component id high fructose corn syrup.

  8. This website was very informative. I found that some of my favorite foods have a long history. Some foods were delectable, and some were gruesome. Such as blood and frogs. I found many popular healthy foods, have been here as early as BC 5,000. I found that my favorite cuisine, Chinese food, came to America in the mid-1800's. But became popular with young cosmopolitans in the 1920s because it was considered exotic.

  9. I think this was an interesting website because it had foods I had never heard of and what I have never tried. One food I have never heard of is rum. I also never new that lollipops that people still eat today is from 1784. I also thought that it was interesting on how old peanut butter is from 1895. I also saw that pizza was invented from the 1800's. I also saw some food company brands. One was Heinz Ketchup from 1876. What surprised me the most that stuff that was invented over a century ago is still eaten by people today. Overall I think this is a great website to find the history of food and their recipes.

  10. The website had a lot of information about when food got created. On the time line I found out that nachos were invented in the 1943. I found out that the first recipe made was bread and soup created in 10,000 BC. I found out that chocolate truffles were invented in 1919.

  11. Well, I thought that this website taught me that most of my favorite foods have a long history. I was really surprised, but I still liked learning about it. I learned that coca cola was invented in 1886, pizza in 1889, pancake syrup in 1887, milk shakes and Dr. Pepper in 1885, tacos in 1931, and most of all cake pops in 2007. I learned that cake pops were not invented so long ago which shocked me. I actually liked this website because it told me all about these different foods, and when they were invented.

  12. his website was very beneficial and informational abou the history of our food. I didn't know the dates of when the foods we all eat were invented and it was very interesting to read about it. I was actually very surprised at when some of the foods we normally eat were eaten. What shocked me the most was that cake pops were invented in 2007 and chicken nuggets were invented in the 1980s. If we actually think about it our diets would be so different if we lived 20 years ago.

  13. I thought that this website is pretty cool because you can find when your favorite foods were invented. Foods I thought were interesting are:
    • Ice cream:
I thought ice cream was invented in the 1800’s, but surprisingly it was made in 3000 BC!
    • Blood as food:
When I saw this on the timeline, I literally thought that people actually drank blood, but when I clicked on the link, it said that people at that time used to not cook meat beyond rare, so it used to still contain blood.
    • Pancakes and waffles:
I had thought that pancakes and waffles were invented in the 1700’s but it was actually made in the 13th century.

  14. This timeline was very surprising and extremely informational. I read about my favorite fruit, the pomegranate. I was very surprised to learn that it was considered a luxury or even to some a priceless fruit. It was painted on walls in ancient Egyptian tombs and even used in some Greek myths. Some writers even referred to it as an apple with many seeds, which is really true considering that the apple was a well-known fruit at the time. It appealed to traders because of the red color and its blossom like shape which made it seem unusual and desirable. It was and still is a native tree to Iran. It was also believed to cure some minor diseases and was even given as a prescription to some people in ancient Greece and Rome.

  15. The food timeline had some very hard-to-believe facts like Coca-Cola was made in 1886, which I thought was made in the late 1900s (Pepsi rules though). It was pretty obvious that water and ice were there since the dawn of time. If ice cream was invented in 3000 B.C, then our ice cream should have advanced so much to the extent that it should have been melt-proof. Another one I couldn’t believe was that chocolate &vanilla were made in 1500 B.C, because I thought the flavors were made in the 16th or 17th century(apparently that’s when every legendary chocolate company made its debut). What I didn’t expect to see in the 3rd century was lemons. Weren’t lemons there for such a long time (I thought it would be in B.C)? I noticed that when I saw California sourdough bread in 1849, it was the same year as the gold rush (which probably why some person came up with it). This website is very informational, which is why I should visit the webpage again (not to mention how hungry it made me).

  16. I found this timeline very interesting, but I was also surprised that a lot of these items I have never heard of and are very old like baklava I thought it was a recent invention but it wasn’t, it was actually invented in the eleventh century which surprised me. Another example is sandwiches they ,were invented in 1762 , I thought they would be a lot older as it is a very simple concept as you just put meat or a filling inside two slices of bread.one food that especially astonished me is the marshmallow. It was invented in 2000 B.C.I thought it was a modern invention, made in the nineteenth century or the twentieth century it really is old and a lot of these foods surprised me as to how old or new they are really liked this website and I want to explore and learn about all of the foods that I did not recognize as well.

  17. The food timeline is very interesting and fascinating for it shows that many of the foods we enjoy today are from B.C centuries. Icecream was at 3000 B.c which i found interesting for I thought that this sweet was formed way later than that time period. Also being a chocolate lover I found it quite amazing that chocolate was with us since 1500 B.C mark. It surprised me that the people of that era would have such “delicacies” in which people of this generation take for granted. The timeline was also surprising in the fact pineapples and lemons were discovered at a much later time; blueberries raspberries, grapes, watermelon, (etc.). Lemons especially surprised for I did not think that one of the most important fruits, that we add to any dish was found in a much later era than those that are uncommon or not used as much. This timeline was very amazing as well as surprising in terms of seeing the foods we ate daily, come from a long time ago.

  18. The time line really surprised me because looking at how our tastes for different foods changed through out history. But the most shocking discovery for my brain was that people actually drink blood because it tastes good. Yuck! But what i noticed is that our food started to get processed along the way. They ate clams and oysters way back in history here we are eating processed junky food. Im lost. Though there is one thing i know for sure, Mark Bittman wouldn't have approved this dramatic change. Though sadly lot's of American still do.

  19. This food timeline is pretty interesting. I cant believe that most foods that I eat are most made in the BC. For example ice cream was created in 3000 BC, and that is one of my favorite treats. I was also surprised that blood was discovered as a ingredient after most candy's. I know that cannibalism started after the time that lots of candy's where created. Also most of our treats like pretzels, fried chicken, waffles and pancakes where made between the 1st century to the 20th century. the biggest thing I noticed was that our ingredients for most of these foods have changed to make it have more protein or more fat, for example I looked at the dolma ingredient on the timeline and another dolma ingredient online and I was shocked by the amount of oil added in the newer version. Also this makes Mark Bittman right, like how he said our foods get more unhealthy by generation. Also on the timeline i noticed that most of the meals in the 1900's where the unhealthy every day meals we eat. something else about the food in the 1900's is that they gained animal fat and protein. The interesting part about this is that most of the unhealthy meals came before the healthy meals. That is mostly what I think about this timeline.
